Top myths about chiropractors and chiropractic treatment

Most people have conflicting views about visiting a chiropractor in North Sydney. Many times, there is no merit or proof for all the rumors that are spread. Here are some of the biggest myths surrounding these practitioners.

  • There is no scientific evidence of this treatment being effective

This is the first myth that people have about this method of treatment because they think it is not as effective as other forms of treatment and does not provide any scientific evidence for the procedure it follows. This is not true at all because there are a number of experts who have expressed positive opinions in favor of this treatment and its practitioners. There are also systematic reviews of this treatment for several conditions which are proof of its effectiveness.

  • It only takes a weekend course to be called a chiropractor

This is another myth that is common about this profession, however, this is not true. In order to become a chiropractor, you have to first get registered with a recognized authority and that authority requires you to complete a degree from an accredited university. This is not a small course or a one-year program but a full 4-5 year program which you are required to complete if you want to be called a chiropractor in North Sydney. The number of hours completed at a university by a chiropractor is more than that of a regular medic, which only shows that this is not something everyone can easily do.

  • This is not a recognized profession

This is a false statement and does not hold any merit in reality because these practitioners are registered with a recognized authority that issues them their licenses. Without this recognition, they are not allowed to treat patients. As mentioned earlier, they go through proper schooling for their licensure which means that if there is schooling for this field, it is a recognized profession.

  • This treatment is dangerous

People blame this method of treatment for being a threat to health and well-being. Usually the concern is that the adjustments to the neck can cause a stroke. Now, this is not the fault of this treatment or the professionals because they usually see people who are about to have a stroke which is not detectable until it actually happens. This form of treatment is very safe and statistically speaking, you are just as likely to have a stroke when seeing your GP as you are if you are seeing your chiropractor.

  • Chiropractors are not real doctors

This is technically true but that does not mean that they do not have the title. The reason people think about them this way is that they are not medical doctors. They go through similar training hours and are awarded a doctorate title on completion but it means that they are doctors of chiropractic, not medical doctors.

  • These practitioners X-ray everyone

The thing is that these people are trained to take and read X-rays. This means that they follow a strict guideline to check whether they should take the X-ray or not. They have to have a proper justification for taking an X-ray and in most cases there is one. People mistake this for an extra process that they do not have to necessarily go through, which is why they are wrong.

  • They are after your money

This is probably the biggest myth that follows these people. Just because this treatment is not free so people think that chiropractors are after your money. This not true because they normally offer reduced rates or free treatments if their patients are not improving in the way that they should.
